io Ermoli was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia where she danced and competed for thirteen years at Gretchen Greene School of Dance. She has trained in a variety of styles including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, pointe, hip hop, and acrobatics from renowned choreographers such as Chad McCall, Melissa (MJ) Jackson, Wendy Denney, Ashley Lindsey, Nora Clark, and Trina Dodd. She furthered her training at the performing arts high school, Savannah Arts Academy. Inspired by the influences of her dance teachers, io became a dance assistant for seven years and a ballet, tap, and acrobatics teacher/choreographer for her last two years at Gretchen Greene. In 2018, she joined the local theatre company, Savannah Stage Company. As the youngest person in the Company, she was cast as the Dance Captain and a Kit Kat Girl for the company’s adult performance of "Cabaret". She accepted the role as choreographer for their performances of "Violet the Musical", which has recently won Best Local Theater Production in Savannah, and Beauty and the Beast in 2019. Currently, io lives in Tallahassee attending Florida State University as a third-year BFA Dance Major, training under the likes of Jawole Zollar, Donna Uchizono, Ilana Goldman, Kara Wilkes, Tim Glenn, and Tom Welsh. Her love and passion for dance has grown throughout the years and expanded to include dance film, conditioning, projection work, and music composition. Recently, her latest projection dance film in collaboration with Katie Rolph, “in flux”, has been accepted and will be presented at The Digital Graffiti Festival in Alys Beach, FL. This is the second year io and Katie have been accepted into the festival for their projection dance films that utilize projections, editing, dance, and original scores. Her latest choreographic work “is it…now?” will be premiering at FSU’s Days of Dance in April. She is also in the beginning stages of a lifelong project researching her Japanese/Italian heritage and the traditional cultural dances that already live within her. io hopes to continue to create and explore in the future.
